How professional can migrate to Australia under Skilled Migration Scheme of Australia

Among those who are interested in a permanent residence of Australia, professional skilled migration is considered to be a widely utilised migration program. Such programs facilitate skilled professionals across the globe to migrate to Australia and work. All these programs are tailored to match the most recent demands in the Australian labour market.

When it comes to skilled migration program, skilled workers will be able to explore their opportunities in Australia and see the possibilities of gaining permanent resident visa for Australia. The selection process will be based on the qualifications, work experience apart from fulfilling the other requirements as an immigrant. Although the demand may subject to fluctuate annually, professions like IT, Accounting and Telecom Engineering are associated with a large number job openings and hence these professions stay on the most wanted list for a long time.

Basically, there are five visa subclasses placed under skilled migration visa. These subclasses are divided considering various facts and listed below are those categories.

- Subclass 189: Skilled Independent Visa
This particular visa type is offered for those who don’t have sponsorships (either by an employee or family member). Skilled independent visa is also offered for those who aren’t nominated by a government body.

- Subclass 190: Skilled Nomination Visa
Subclass 190 is offered for those who are nominated either by a state or territory government agency. Under this visa category, professionals are allowed to live and work in Australia. The successful candidates will be granted the permanent residence as well.

- Subclass 485:  Graduate Temporary Visa
This is not a permanent visa category. Graduate Temporary Visa is offered for those who have completed 2 years (at the least) of study in Australia. Upon receiving a graduate temporary visa, the respective students will be eligible to live and work in Australia for a maximum period of four years.

- Subclass 489: Skilled-Nomination Visa or Sponsored Provisional Visa
Under this visa subcategory, skilled professionals are allowed to work, live and study in specified areas of Australia. Nevertheless, the professionals that become eligible under this category can accompany their families to live in Australia.

- Subclass 887: Skilled Regional Visa
This subclass is offered particularly for professionals that have lived in Australia for a minimum period of 2 years. In addition to that, it is compulsory for them to possess one-year work experience in Australia to be eligible for this category. Furthermore, the applicant must be in Australia at the time he or she applies for this visa subclass.

Now that you know all the Visa subclasses pertaining to skilled migration Australia, there are some other important things to consider before start applying. Mentioned below are some of the most important facts for your reference.

- The eligibility for skilled migration is determined based on points
The skilled migration program is a ‘cut and clear’ one; the eligibility is determined considering the points you have obtained. These points are offered determining various factors such as professional qualifications, industry experience (work experience), and proficiency in English etc. To be eligible, you must score 60 points at the least.

- It is compulsory to nominate your occupation from the Skilled Occupation List
The Australian Government maintains a Skilled Occupation List (SOL) which gets updated depending on the demands of the industry. If your plan to apply for an Australian visa under subclass 189 (Independent Skilled Visa), you will need to select an occupation from this occupation list. As a matter of fact, the occupations listed on the SOL are given the top priority by the Department of Immigration and Border Control in terms of offering permanent residence.

- Demand for skilled occupation may vary from State to State
Under practical circumstances, the Skilled Occupation List may vary from state to state. Basically, this list is prepared to determine the labour needs of the respective state and hence it may vary depending on the present demands. However, if the occupation you prefer is not available in the SOL, you have an opportunity to nominate an occupation from CSOL (Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List).

Selecting a course of study solely to match the present Skilled Occupation List is not recommended; the Skilled Migration Program in Australia is subjected to change to match the most recent economic needs. Therefore, it is always advisable that you select a course based on the interest.

Apart from IT, Accounting and Telecommunication, there is a constant demand in Australian economy for professionals like Nurses and Social Workers. The demand related to these occupations only likely to grow in the upcoming years. However, if you expect the best outcome, it is always important that you select a reliable, reputed and well-established course provider.
